I have the Asus A7V8X-X ver 2

It says that I can have  3 gig worth of mem. unbuffered non-ECC PC 3200/2700/2100/1600 DDR DIMMs

says it supports up to 3 gig system memory using unbuffered non-ECC PC 2100/1600 DDR DIMMs
(note: PC2700 maximum to 4 banks only. 3200 maximum to 2 banks only. Visit the ASUS website [www.asus.com] for the latest qualified DDR400 module list.)

I have 3  of 2700 chips, but they don't work
the board will 'accept' them, but they don't register.

any suggestions?

3 chips are not DDR (dual data rate) the key here being dual.
not trio. they will not run in DDR mode with 3 chips, only 2
or 4 chips.

yep you need 4 pcs.....if you know a buddy you can borrow from to test.
or go to a shop that you know some one at, and ask them to test. if thats what you need.... hint that when you have the money... you will get from them.

check a site called    http://www.anandtech.com/ check what they have on it.
you may find what you are looking for.

it may run this way 1gig beside 1 gig un buffered and 1 gig reg

end
