I finally got my gaming video card... so here is the rig I
currently run..

Sapphire ATI X800xt Platinum 256mb video card
Mitsubishi Diamond Pro 900u 19" crt
Intel D865PERL mobo
Intel 3.2 socket 478 1mb l2 cache
2 gig DDR corasir ram
WD 74gb Raptor hard drive 10k rpm 4.5ms seek(no raid yet)
Sound Blaster Audiology 2 soundcard
Bose Media Mate speakers
Nostromo n52 gaming controler
MS Optical Intellimouse
Sony 16x +/-  dual layer dvd-rw/cd-rw
Antec SOHO 1040 server case
HP dj895cxi printer
Canon 670 scanner

The new video card really ROCKS!!! It's pricey but
what price can you put on extreme entertainment fun..

Where does my machine stand against yours?

*drools*

gaming compare:

video card: byte (x800xt-a bit faster) > me  (nvidia 6800GT OC'd to 6800Ultra)
monitor: byte < me (SGI-Sony 22" CRT)
mobo: N/A
cpu: byte < me (a little faster for games; athlon64 3200+ 1mb cache)
ram: byte (more ram and dual channel better brand) > me (1G ram single channel samsung brand)
HD: byte < me (2x37 370GD 10krpm Raptor RAID-0)
audio: byte > me (built-in sound.  hehehe)
speaker: byte > me (2-speaker desktop)
controller: N/A different taste
mouse: byte < me (logitech MX1000 baby!;)
cdrom: byte > me (just 1xTDK 52xCDR & 1xTDK 16XDVD-rom)
case: N/A different taste
printer: byte > me (no printer for gaming)

workstation compare:
video card: byte > me  (ATI 9800 AIW--- slower card; but more practical for workstation--I can do video editing and watch TV! and record in DVD quality.)
monitor: byte < me (21.3" 213T Samsum LCD)
mobo: byte > me (older Athlon XP mobo)
cpu: byte > me (XP 3000+ OC'd to 3200+; faster than intel 3.0 but not 3.2)
ram: byte > me (2G RAM but non-dual channel)
HD: byte > me (740GD raptor rocks!  workstation design for storage not speed.)
audio: byte > me (built-in sound.  hehehe)
speaker: byte > me (2.1-speaker altec lansing  XA3021 3yr old speakers)
controller: byte > me (no controller)
mouse: byte > me (old wireless logitech cordless mouseman)
cdrom: byte =< me (same DVDRW, but I also have a TDK 52x CDR/DVDROM combo)
case: byte = me (Coolermaster wavemaster)
printer: byte < me (cannon i860 & HP840C)

compusa had 2 X850XT (PCIe) left at the store for $550, but I didnt buy it.  :(  too expensive, and I dont have a PCIe mobo yet. It would mean building a whole new computer.  Life sux!  heheheehe j/k

Its gonna take you a lil time to get used to a newer puter bro, upgrading from what you have now to what I understand youre getting is a big jump.

I am still rockin my AMD Athlon Barton 2500+ cpu ( oc'd to 2.5 G'z )
ASUS A78NX 2.0 mobo with two sticks 512 Kingston pc3200
Soon to get the GeForce 6600 GT ( gimme 2 weeks )
Expect a new system next tax season... 64's got my attention! And so does pci-e. Looking to drop over 2 G'z on an ultimate system, may need some guidence!  :D

i just hate Intel... what can i tell ya...LMAO

I see it like this... Intel & Radeon I stay away from, dont hate'em, just stay away from things I cannot tweak or mod. Had an intel 1nce... Thing fried on me in a month! And most people I know with Radeon's/ ATI's  same thing. AMD & Nvidia for me says I.  :D

WTF????  2.5ghz from a barton 2500+  What kinda heatsink you got??

I was only able to OC my 3000+ barton to 2.2ghz (equiv to 3200+)

the athlon 64 4000+ is only 2.4ghz itself!

:-O

i think I gotta trade up my heatsink or something!  lol

not really the diff is in the mobo....
and what your useing to do the clocking.   :oh:

my XP 2600 no OC runs @ 2.088 Ghz, so yes a XP 2500 could reach 2.5Ghz

the best and easy way to test the clock speed is ED 2.0
open a map, hit the play level icon... and read the info as it goes. or you can spend an hour going through the ini files. it's in there to somewere. it's not a perfect benchmark. but Dam close.

what was the Multiplier set for? How much was the voltage stepped and the FSB running at?

what was the Mobo?  :p

Posted by: slatts on Mar. 22 2005,20:57

Oh ya... the 64 Bit. dubbles the 32 bit apps. so in theory, should run @ 4.8 Ghz
