Quote (slatts @ Feb. 09 2007,19:04) | what did they say was wrong with it?
my other machine is a XP 2600 and i luv it. but i just wanted a 64- bit machine...
Bane has a XP 2500 over clocked. let us know what is fried and maybe we can help you out.
will the machine post? does it go beep? when you try to boot it up? can you get into the Bios and reset to factory defaults? try that first. if you just have no display from windows could be a video card or a bad onboard chip, that can be fixed the a video card. could be a bad stick of ram.... i don't know i can't see it so you have to post it... give me as much detail as you can. |
At first they said my motherboard was fried, so I went and bought a new one. Hooked it up and the same thing happened. (Fans and everything turns on, no beep, and I can't even get into the bios settings, the monitor light just says orange)
Then they said it was my power supply, they said it was reading negative. So I went and bought another one that they recommended. Still didn't help.
I know it's not the video card because that's what I'm using now. And I installed a brand new 512mb stick of ram in it and that wasn't the problem either.
Actually, now that I remember. Compusa did say something about something being wrong with my hardware, but they wouldn't say what.

well if you have a new Power and mobo, you changed the ram. that only leaves one thing that will stop the board and bios from posting... the cpu is fried. do you know any one who has a socket A board you can try thier processor in your two boards?
if the fans ran the psu is not fried and reading 0 or negative.
sounds to me they have a bunch of high school kids in the back doing the testing. or they only deal with Intel crap and don't know anything about AMD (like a buddy of mine who has his own shop and dosen't touch, stock, or know anything about AMD) the socket A boards for thier time will be jumperless so everything is auto.. and you bought a new one.. so CPU is dead.

sure and you can use same OS. don't have to format or lose data or settings. but you will be required to reinstall windows over top of the one that is there.. and everything will be fine.... turn on your MSN

I tried playing some games on here earlier today and I was only getting 50 fps, when on my old computer I was getting 100. It's the same video card (ATI Radeon 9200se, 128mb) Is it because of the processor that I'm only getting this little amount of fps?

could be that, more then likely... could also be the video isnt tweaked? if all else fails, go back to the 1st answer. ;) on this rig of my parents i cant even play UT99... and it's a P4 P.O.S! 1 gig memory and a decent video card ( for UT 99 ) but it doesnt work good with ANY games... Even put my brothers radeon 9600 in here and did the same thing... cpu sux majorly... even bench marks on pcpitstop show that it isnt what it's supposed to be at. what do i do? ( takes machine out in the back yard, aims... FIRE! ) i miss UT...

are you playing at the same resolution or higher?
if the cpu is better, ram is same amount, dont see why you couldnt get the same ballpark fps unless your resolution is different. Did you get the basic 3dmark score on your old rig? And compare it with your new?
whats wrong with intel? Their Core 2 Duo is rocking AMD. AMD got nothign to compete at the moment. I would get one if i could, but i only build a amd last year! $%@#$^%

My desktop res is 1024x768 and my ingame is 640x480. Last time I checked my video score in pcpitstop was the same.
