Oberon (Dennis) is having some issues with this.
stats: One computer is XP pro the other is XP Home XP Home is the 'master' (connects to internet etc.) XP Pro, uses XP Home to connect to internet
Neither computer can play host for Diablo II when using the IP/TCP connect as the other computer will 'search/look' for the other but will not find the 'host'
the IP's are shown, so it is not a matter a mis-typed address.
I am thinking that it is a problem with the Pro/home network. but then I think, why should it matter. Pro can see home, so therefore connect. (*which brings up the fact that I know nothing of networking *)
allthough I have XP pro, and am file sharing with Jens XP home.
any insight would be fabulous.

Diablo II is a an older software. I think most games at that era uses IPX, NetBIOS, NetBUI, and/or NWLINK protocal to play local lan games. All of which are legacy now in Windows XP. They dont come installed out of the box, you have to install those protocols.
Furthermore, remember Windows SP2 has include a firewall now that could block windows-name broadcast.
So the system can host, but probably will not be able to broadcast it's game internally. However, you should be able to connect directly to it with the IP address.
Should be similar to WarCraft II. I had to do the same thing.

I do know that one comp has SP1 and the other has SP2, does that matter? I will let him know that he needs some protocols as well.
