I had some free time so I decided to load up UT99 on Windows 8 (i7 3770K; 16GB RAM NVidia 660GT)
And holy crap, it plays horrible! No matter what I did, the framerates was horrible. There was NO WAY this hardware can run a 13 year game terrible!
I remember playing UT on GeForce 4TI! And it played well! 60+ frames/sec.
So I googled, and found this:
http://www.cwdohnal.com/utglr/
I grabbed the D3D9 renderer, and drop the 2 files into the UT system folder, then start up UT, went to preferences, and change my driver from D3D to D3D9. Restarted UT, and aaah, MUCH better. Plays more like I remember it.
Now, if only I can find my CD backup with all my settings and keybindings.

XP??? I think I like Windows 7 enough not to go back to XP again. Windows 8 is ugly, but it boots fast as heck... and so far it works; and when it doesn't wasn't anything me and a little googling haven't solved yet.
I think just the speed alone might make windows 8 worth it.

if you use default OS settings ( even though it chose a rez for you ) go get the actual softwear for your videocard, you'll be much happier... D3D9 ROCKS!!!!
