I use the numpad as my controller. The keyboard numpad is kinda too big, so one day @ CompUSA I saw a laptop numpad. Since laptops dont have a numpad, you gotta get the keyboard extension as a usb add-on.
Then I thought ####, that would be sweet since I can put the numpad anywhere in the desk thats comfortable for my hand to play with.
It cost me $30, and is well spent.
Here's a quick pic of it how how I set up UT to work with the numpad.
the "/" and "*" can be assigned to anything you want. Maybe 2 of your other favorite weapons. I have it equip "/" for enforcer, and "*" for flakcannon. Sometimes they are unassigned because I forgot to on some systems.
the "1", "2", "3" and "0" key can be assigned too. But they are not as important as the ones I colored.
The keys "7" and "4" both are strafe-Left, and "9" and "6" are both strafe-Right. "8" is forward, and "9" is backward.
"." is my kneel or crouch key. Good for a quick snip or dodge during a fight.
YES I kneel too during a dual... kneel, dodge, flip jump translocate.
As you can see "Enter" is my Redeemer. It's a big fat button to make sure I dont hit the wrong key when I want to deemer some dumb ass. and ESR is assigned to the big "+" key.
I never go "next weapon", i always previous weapon is more useful so thats bind to the "-" key.
This is how I can switch betwee deemer, esr, translocator at god-like speed. ;-)
I also pulled out the numlock key and broke it on purpose so I dont accidentally hit it during the game. This is annoying if you do it too many times, UT will LOCK your keys. You will always be moving left, right, forward, depending on the last key you hit when it locks. No way to fix accept to wait for 1 to 5 minute until it unlocks, or quite and reboot. So breaking the numlock is better. -- dont do it to the numlock on your keyboard. I did it only to the numlock on the external usb numpad I use as a controller.
I find the numpad as the best FPS controller out there. Ironically it isnt meant to be a game controller... fuck it. LEt's paint it with arrow keys and re-sell it as UT controller and all get rich!
As for my mouse config (not talking about which mouse is the best) for a 3 button with wheel:
Left-click = primary fire Middle-click = alternate fire Right-click = jump Wheel-Up = Translocator Wheel-down = sniper-rifle
Quick Snipe mode for me:
1) Wheel up to Translocate to ideal location
2) Wheel down to switch to sniper rifle
3) wheel-press or middle-click to use alternate fire, which is the zoom mode for the sniper-rifle
4) fire a few times until noticed.
5) wheel-press again to cancel zoom.
from here i can zoom in again once confirm no one notice me, or i can wheel up and translocate outta there.
With the wheel function and key, i can alternate into sniper mode and out real fast. Makes me a fast translocator/sniper. My ESR key is bound to the big "+" key, so I can switch between sniper/esr/deemer in an instant assuming there is no lag in the game.

that sounds and looks kewl
my config is this: I have one of those new type keyboards that split down the middle( to ease the carpal tunnels that people get from using the standard board) anyhow
I use the arrow keys for movement(left hand) I have the enter button as the toss wpn(don't need a pistol so I ditch that ASAP and any unwanted wpn I pick up during a heated mano a mano battle(irritating and I know I can turn of the auto switch weapons, but that is a personal preferance I have)) the shift right below enter is jump the cntr right below shift is crouch the 0 on number pad is deemer
my mouse(3 button wheeled optical) left main fire right alt fire middle tele wheel up sniper wheel down esr
I do well and have tried a few other things, but this works for me

Raven...
Hard to picture that set up... can you take a pic of that keyboard. is it aleft handed keyboard?
Anyhow I keep the enforcer around for a couple reasons... even the flak cannon. Once upon a lan game where there is no lag, flak cannons are useful to disarm deemers. It's almost near impossible for me to pull off now since my ping is like never lower than 400. But if some bastard tries to deemer you, and you anticipate it, flak it, it will up in the guys face.
As for the enforcer, it's for easy kills. You deemer someone, or notice someone lucky enough to inch away a deemer that didnt kill up but takes 90% of his energy. Switch to enforcer, and cap his ass. It fires much faster and accurate than ESR, and all it takes is 1 shot. Sniper rilfe works too but you have to have it. You always have the enforcer cus it;s a default weapon with 50 amo.

i heard about that controller... actually scratch showed it to me...
it's nice. kinda cheating tho.. since you can program a double-tap to a key... lol
I still recommend using the numpad set up... because its more universal.
You never know when you'd be at some friends place who has an extra PC and he challenges you to a game! You dont got your controller with you. So you gotta use the keyboard! It's the universal controller man.
Every keyboard has a numpad.
I've been using my configs since 1998 playing quake2. and was a keyboard playing before that on quake1.
